United Power joined a small group of elite cooperatives in June when it surpassed 100,000 meters served off its lines. It became just the second Colorado co-op, and 31st nationally, to cross the meter milestone. To commemorate the achievement, the co-op hosted an Open House Celebration for members at its Carbon Valley Service Center, located off the I-25 Frontage Road just west of Firestone and Frederick, on August 28.

Spreading the healing legacy and the impact of the Vietnam War, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica Wall, The Wall That Heals, and Mobile Education Center will be coming to Brighton Sept. 2 - 5, 2021. The Wall will be located at Carmichael Park (650 Southern St.) and will be open 24 hours a day and free to the public. In order to make this event a success, the City of Brighton is seeking approximately 150-200 volunteers.

While it is highly doubtful that Weld County will ultimately leave Colorado and become a part of Wyoming as recently proposed by a citizens group called “Weld County Wyoming,” the motivation behind the proposal is understandable.

Every winter, an average of six people are killed in Colorado due to an avalanche. This season—which is far from over—ten have been killed by avalanches in the state so far, including the two who died over Valentine’s Day weekend near Vail. Avalanches are particularly bad in Colorado this year because the snowpack is weaker than it’s been in almost a decade, due to a snowstorm we got in October that hasn’t bonded well with other layers on top of it.

In winter, people use various ways to keep their homes warm. According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), heating equipment is the leading cause of fires in U.S. homes and nearly half of all home heating fires occur in December, January, and February. The Colorado Office of Consumer Counsel (OCC) is offering Coloradans these safety tips when using furnaces, space heaters, and fireplaces, to heat their homes

On Thursday, January 21st, 2021. Aims Community College held a Beam Signing  event for the new Welcome Center. A brisk day, where the hot chocolate was a big hit. The beam was signed by VIP’s, staff, students and faculty. The beam will ultimately be placed near the top of the three-story Welcome Center.

A new Welcome Center is under construction at Aims Community College. The building, expected to open in December 2021, will house Student Services, an auditorium and offer spaces for student collaboration and community gatherings.

Approved by the college’s Board of Trustees in August 2018, the 106,000-square-foot facility is being built on the Greeley Campus. The entirety of the project is being paid for with reserve and operating budgets with no additional cost to taxpayers.
